Direct-push sampling technology was originally developed by Geoprobe more than 30 years ago. This is a technique where specialized tooling is driven into the subsurface to obtain soil, groundwater and/or soil gas samples. Direct-push tools don’t create soil cuttings while probing unlike conventional hollow stem auger drilling. Instead, they rely on percussion to allow their advancement through the subsurface via discrete interval or continuous tube soil samplers, or systems that rely on use of an expendable drive point at target depths for groundwater or soil gas sampling.
Installation of conventional monitoring, recovery and injection wells is accomplished through use of hollow stem augers and associated tooling through unconsolidated materials in the subsurface.
